john st. mandel has such a captivating way of writing her characters that makes you care about them quickly, even while they’re not doing anything all that interesting. no real clue how this one ties into station eleven, but i’m told the next one is the common thread so i suppose we shall see. a pleasant read!

A pretty great book! I feel like I could read it a few more times and glean something new from it each time.

This time, it was a sense of mysteriousness without a completely formed mystery to resolve.

The story takes you through, and back through, and through again, clustered years and moments, with a series of character studies that are interwoven-ish. Related, but hardly related, and not in the ways that’d be obvious.

Good stuff. You should read it.

The writing is so beautiful, but I did have some trouble connecting with the characters. They all seem so detached, just drifting through their lives.
