I thought this book was so cute! I loved it, as did my daughter. This would be the perfect read for the holidays. It was lots of fun, and had cute illustrations. It made my Christmas loving heart happy!

I heard about this during the 2019 holiday season but was unable to get to reading it until after the craziness settled a bit. This is a delightful addition to holiday tales. I love how much young Freddy loves Santa: so much so that Santa is a part of Freddy’s life all year long. The artwork by Dan Santat is stunning and adds even more whimsy to Freddy’s attempt to catch Santa for a selfie. Definitely a book to add to your annual Christmas stack.

Young Santa-fanatics are sure to appreciate this cute, humorous story about a boy determined to get a selfie with Santa. This would make a fun readaloud (at Christmas time or any time of year) to pair with a challenge to kids to brainstorm their own plan to snatch a selfie with Santa.

I got this late from the library and put this up as my last review of the year for picture books.
I am a fan of Dan Santat, so it was a treat to see he did the artwork here. It’s interesting that this is coming out the same day as my review of How to Catch an Elf because they sort of have the same premises - to catch Santa claus. The boy in this book, Freddy loves Santa and he dresses up as Santa every holiday of the year and people think he’s a little peculiar. He thinks he will be able to outwit Santa since he is such a fan.
Christmas night arrives and he hears a great commotion outside and he’s afraid he hurt Santa, but Santa outsmarted him and gave him a note, encouraging him to try harder next year.
The nephew didn’t like this one as much as the elf book. The other was funnier. He thought this book was ok. So I like this one better and he likes the other one better. The other is slap stick and this is more serious. He gave this 3 stars.

A fantastic story of Santa' #1 fan, Freddy. Find out what happens as he schemes to get a selfie with Santa on Christmas Eve. This one will make the kids laugh out loud, although it might be a bit much for preschoolers to grasp.

Freddy Melcher is Santa’s #1 fan. He dresses like jolly old Saint Nick for holidays other than Christmas; he gives out tree-shaped Valentine’s; and his entire room is decked out in Santa paraphernalia. The only thing Freddy doesn’t have is a photo of himself with Mr. Claus the moment the man pops forth from the chimney. Luckily, Freddy has a fool-proof plan to get such a photograph. Kids and adults will giggle with glee as Freddy sets his plan in motion and then delight in the outcome. Santat’s illustrations are brilliant, as usual, and elevate this story to Christmas classic status. A must-purchase for all elementary libraries.
