Thoughtful account of the early years of Charles II's reign. Uglow's portrayal of Charles II as a risktaker is interesting but what stuck with me is Charles's poor frustrated wife, Catherine of Braganza, who longed for a baby but remained without one while watch his mistresses produce child after child.
