First, I wanted to say that this book is very different from the Netflix show and, surprisingly, I liked the show better, which is rare.

The book follows four different people who come to live in the Hill House and document their experiences. The book follows how living in the house affects these people. I didn't find the book scary, but there were some very creepy and disturbing scenes. What confused me a lot was that there were times when something happened, and there wasn't enough follow-up to them before moving on. This confused me a little, but perhaps it was intended to show the characters' mental confusion. The progression of the character's mental health (s) is something worth reading, and I really liked that aspect of the book.

After reading this story, the main idea that I formed was that it is easy to get manipulated when we are doubtful about ourselves.

So I hadn’t read this in quite a long time. It is quite the slow burn compared to modern reads and has little that compares for fright and suspense along the way. But for its time, you can see why it would have such draw and appeal. To this day, it’s ending is still disturbing and unique. I would still recommend for anyone looking for classic stories of haunting a just for the vintage feel. And, after finishing this time, I was able to binge-watch the new series on Netflix and I love love love how they modernized it, drew out all the creepy bits of the novel, and changed the character lineup and main story to make it more interesting and suspenseful for a modern audience that still loves classic haunts.

This is the only book that actually made me a bit nervous / scared to read. Beautiful work!

This was a perfect Halloween read. It was also excellent company at my job at the library.

First off, this edition of the book was particularly nice because it had an introduction that was basically just saying "Hey, this book is about lesbians." Which is wonderful.

As for the following story, I really enjoyed it! It had a good amount of spooks, humor, and overall vibes of a horror haunted house story. The development was also really nice. I don't want to spoil anything so I won't elaborate, but I think that if you're looking for a classic haunted house story (that has gay undertones) that will have you interested the entire time, then you have come to the right place and will not be disappointed.
