Glad I picked up this book despite many dislikes from my circle. To me, it's a page-turner and it's quite an easy read.

The world building is quite good. I can say I don't even mind if this book were coming out as purely high fantasy as in without romance in it. Anyway, since romance is in it albeit slightly, the story delivers excellently.

For characters, there are many of them and honestly, they are distinctive so it's easy to connect with them.

What I disliked is Violet herself. At first, I thought she was a gentle kind of person. That's how my mind projected about her since she wanted to become a librarian and prefer to be surrounded with books instead of forced military participation. She mentioned she was scared, unprepared and insecured about herself because of her being a petite, unfit to join for war. Much to my dismay, she's quiet outspoken and bold. Some of her thoughts are shamelessly I literally felt secondhand embarrassment.

Another thing I disliked in this book is in order to become a dragon rider, be it voluntary or selected or forced, you have to survive the challenges or else death. Don't you think it's overkill? It's overkill to me because they are recruiting people to go for war, why let them die when they failed to overcome some challenges? Why can't train them instead? Skills can be improved.

My favourite part in this book is when Violet finally learnt the real truth. Unfortunately, to learn more about it, need to wait for the next book *cry* yes, it's a cliffy. Hate it so much.

I’m actually SO ANGRY that this book is over and that it ended on a cliffhanger and now I have to read another long book but it’s also going to end on a cliffhanger and I just want Violet and Xaden to be happy and there to be no war and UGH! Anyways! Really good book! We’ll see when I read Iron Flame. Also, justice for Liam literally WTF that was not necessary.
