my favourite local poetry collection so far! tse offers poetic observations of an array of subject-matter, from bak kut teh to the beach at pasir ris park at night, and invites the reader to go along with him up a glass elevator and to have enough patience to unpack his writing. coherent without rehashing the same theme but in sustaining the same poetic voice and attitude throughout, 'deeds of light' is, without a doubt, a brilliant collection of poetry. my favourite poems include 'seven thousand', 'greater than the sum', 'unlike bukit ho swee' and 'pasir ris'.
