I love Sherlock Holmes and I've watched nearly every one of the tv adaptions of the well-known detective and his friend, so it was time for me to pick up the original.

The first part of the book was good, with some of the all known cases, and some lesser ones. The second part, however, was a bit boring, as the pattern of the cases kept being repeated. The writing was spot on though and the illustrations fantastic.

So, overall, a good read, but not as good as I thought it would be.

Really enjoyed these, although I think the Red-Headed League was my least favorite. And as a person who has seen most of the modern adaptations of Sherlock, I'm pleased that his book self does not strike me as a jerk. Occasionally impolite or rude, but not a jerk. There's some adaptations that should take note.

I'm really not sure why I put off reading this for so long. I absolutely loved it, a true classic.

I think the modern exposure of Sherlock Holmes really helps with the familiarity.

This book contains 20 of the best of the 56 short stories including ten chosen by Conan Doyle himself. I found myself agreeing with a lot of the choices though I wish they had included "The Lion's Mane" as well. According to the preface it made the short list but was thrown over to "The Illustrious Client".

All in all this is a very good selection of the best Holmes stories.

How can you beat a classic like Sherlock?
This great collection of some of the best SH stories by Sir Conan Doyle really grasps the reader, swinging you into Sherlocks world and solving the cases right along side him.
A true staple for any literary nerd like myself!
