I love when authors have short novellas as part of a larger series (The Expanse is another series that does this). There's just something about getting more background information on a series that you love that makes it something more. In this one we go way back to the 1400s to explain some origins of the Cemetery of Forgotten Books. It brief at just 36 pages, but gives us the start of this special place that leads to the events in the series. It's not much, but worth a read if you're digging the series.

It's not necessary to read this in order to follow the rest of the Cemetery of Forgotten Books series, but if you have ever wondered about the inception of the labyrinth that is the Cemetery of Forgotten Books, this short story will provide some knowledge. Keep in mind, though, that is is truly a short story and not a full-length book; after spending a good few tens of minutes hunting down a bootleg PDF of this short story, it took me half as long to read it. We only get about a dozen pages of a partial history and still have a pretty large gap in the timeline.

There are some links floating around the internet for a PDF of the story, since it's no longer available through the publisher's website or as a Kindle book or Nook book. The link I used is https://vk.com/doc1739135_117242161?hash=b5216fb5b771d251ed&dl=53b5e3d9abd0bcc80e.

It was ok. It didn't *really* explain the graveyard of books.

Despite the shortness of Rosa de Fuego (or thanks to it?), I cannot find any flaws that would cause me to give it less than 5 stars.
In just a few pages, Zafón managed to interlace two great stories with the right doses of fantasy and history in his gorgeous writing style - oh, I had forgotten what a pleasure it is to read his works!
I read this book in the blink of an eye, yet it struck me with thrilling revelations and the reminder of why Carlos Ruiz is one of my favourite authors - or maybe the absolute favourite?
