Bird and Squirrel is a really fun children’s graphic novel that I just know a bunch of kiddos are going to have a blast reading!

Bird and Squirrel don’t exactly get along. Bird just wants to have a good time and never worries about a thing. Squirrel is obsessive about gathering nuts for the winter and worries constantly. But when Squirrel’s hoard of nuts is destroyed, the two of them realize they need one another to head south for the winter. Unfortunately, the cat has a different idea and that is having both Squirrel and Bird for lunch! This zany graphic novel is filled with twists and turns that will have even the most reluctant readers eagerly turning the pages.

This is a super cute book that first graders can read (or at least mine did); it's fun and fast-paced and a good introduction to graphic novels. It's also something parents can enjoy (or at least I did). This is a valuable book, is what I'm saying.

The plot is simple: fun-loving Bird, worrywart Squirrel. Together, they have adventures, and are not eaten by a large, mean, incredibly determined cat. But there's still a lot going on here, from the fun art to the developing friendship between Bird and Squirrel to the way they both learn to temper themselves a little.

In summary: pretty great and well worth reading to or with any kids in grades 1-3 that you happen to know.

I was not surprised to learn that the author was an animator before he started writing books because reading this book was like watching a cartoon.
Everyone's facial expression was perfect, and the cat was hilarious. I now love Bird and Squirrel and must have more.
