Even though this is part of the horror collection for October's Prime Reading, I'm not going to call it that. It has some of the elements, but I think it fits more neatly into the mystery/thriller genre.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one. There were a lot of sharp, pointed insights in it I found very relatable, and the pacing was great. I was hooked pretty much from the first read and just kept reading and reading, and was sorry when it was over. I can't remember if I've read any of Unger's books before (Goodreads, help me!), but I'm definitely putting one of her full-length novels on my list now.

After the success of the first book I read from the Dark Corners series, I decided I wanted another one and that is this one. I am not sure if I want to read the series further, but maybe during Halloween again!

This one is about a girl on the run, but who is she running from? And what is going on in the motel? Well, I have to say I knew from the start what was going on, though I have to say that I was a bit confused at times. I will put it under spoilers.
Spoiler I knew she was dead, and that the whole scene happening during the night on repeat was her getting murdered by her craycray boyfriend. However... she was able to receive texts and messages, the police man who came in during the day, which just didn't match with the fact that she died like some time before. Or is it because she is in another dimension? Other time thingie? I don't know, but it was sure as hell confusing. Maybe I should have read this one during the day instead of at night after a day of puking and being sick.

The story switches back and forth between the now and the then. The then being how Evie met Erik, how they fell in love, and how she completely got ensnared and couldn't get out of it. I have read about other abuse relationships and this one just screamed textbook abusive relationship. She wanted to run away from him, but also loved him. She wanted to have sex with him, but also didn't like what he was doing while having sex.
I definitely loved that the author gave us more and more insight in the characters and what happened for Evie to have arrived at this motel.

It was at times a bit creepy, though again, since I knew what was going on, it wasn't as creepy as the other Dark Corners book. But still, very fun to read, and the author managed to write an engaging and exciting story in just under 50 pages!

I have no idea what was happening. This was my first audible book and it was horrible.

Beautifully written emotional short story with a twinge of horror. This is more a moody experimental piece than plot or character driven, though both are present. I enjoyed the larger messaging and empathy present in the pice.
