Note: I read the Swedish translation of this book.

So I felt a little bit skeptical of this book when I first read the description. Politicians? Money? Yawn. But since I have previously read two books in the William Wisting series (The Caveman and The Katharina Code) and liked both of them, I decided to give this one a shot anyway. And it's a good thing I did, because I ended up liking this one as well.

The case is a very complicated one this time, with many players and different small puzzle pieces that are gradually pieced together. Horst expertly builds the story, and I'm fully engrossed all the way through. There's no huge twist or anything, but you still get to wonder how everything fits together until the very end.

As usual, I quite like both William and Line Wisting. There's not too much going on in their personal lives in this book, the focus is mostly on the case, but I've always liked their personalities and that holds true for this installment as well. We also get reacquainted with Adrian Stiller, who we first met in The Katharina Code. He stays in the background more in this book than he did in that one, but I also like him a lot better this time around, so I don't know what that says about his personality.

Now that I've read three books in this series and enjoyed all of them, I think I can conclude that I can trust Horst to keep telling stories that I like in the future, and I will definitely continue with the series.

I had seen this book around before but hadn’t heard of the author so I had never picked it up, but I’m glad that I did, thanks to my local library’s app which has audiobooks!

This was a gripping listen, it kept me hooked and kept my attention throughout.
I found it a bit hard to get to grips with all of the characters at first, but once I could remember who was who, it was fine.

The overall pace of the book was a bit slow but it really picked up towards the end when the more juicy action started to happen. It wasn’t the slowest book I’ve read, but I’ve definitely read others which contained more drama & were more enjoyable than this - I would really have enjoyed some more twists, however Horst did a good job overall with this book.

I hadn’t realised prior to reading this, but the book is part of a series - I’d definitely like to read more books with these characters, as they were likeable and all had multiple layers and depths their personalities.

The second in the Wisting series, THE CABIN follows Wisting and his daughter - plus several supporting characters - investigating the mystery of several boxes’ worth of foreign currency found in the home of a dead government minister. Totalling millions and millions, they have no idea how the money got there, where it was from, and why the minister was in possession of it.

This was a good mystery with a pleasing twist, and all loose ends are tied up by the end. It’s not breakneck speed, and at times I did find it hard to keep track of the secondary characters, but I did enjoy this book and will certainly continue reading Horst’s books.

En f.d. minister dör plötsligt och man hittar 80 miljoner i hans sommarstuga. Det finns bara en som kan lösa detta snabbt och diskret ... min favoritkommissarie i Norge, William Wisting!
