Standard urban fantasy with a Navajo twist, volume 2 - and read #1 first or you'll be lost.

I like what Arkady Martine wrote about character development in this book at https://www.npr.org/2019/05/06/719749592/belonging-and-betrayal-drive-the-action-in-storm-of-locusts

I like the overall feeling afterward that–as in so many mythologies–we are just the game pieces the gods play with. Especially the one figure telling them they must go to this other figure or they will not succeed.

It's certainly an action-filled book. But overall it just felt, I dunno, hasty. As if there were so many ideas, and they all had to go in, and there was a deadline.

Maybe I just don't care for bad guys who are swarms of locusts (or is he? does he transform, or is he all-locust-all-the-time?). Maybe Gideon has a tad too much power for a half-Diné outcast, especially when he can (1) fly, (2) control locust swarms at a distance, (3) transform into locusts himself, (4) do telekinesis, (5) put wings on others and have them work without a power source or any plausible mechanical explanation, ....

Maybe I didn't like the ending where Kai suddenly seems to have more mojo than most of the gods, AND seems to be immortal Just Like The Gods, hmm, what are we going to learn in book 3?

Maybe I, like others, wondered about Knifetown, in a post-apocalyptic world, having a full transplant service up and running. If magic needs to be involved, I'll buy that - but the author has to suggest it.

I kinda liked the relationship stuff, and Ben was a good idea.

So ... I will, with some misgivings, look for #3.

Rebecca Roanhorse has become one of my favorite authors, bar none. I’ve read everything she written (that I could find). I suggest you do the same. I love the world building in this book (series), a post apocalyptic world with representation. I love Maggie, she’s superb. She’s not a cliche, she doesn’t have a destiny, she’s just what you want an imperfect person doing her best with badass clan powers. I can’t wait for more

This second installment in one of Rebecca roanhorse's lesser known works this sequel works out very well in many ways.

The characters are just as tortured and the action is just as well done. I grew up 35 miles north of Phoenix in the middle of the Sonoran Desert and I spent a lot of time in Navajo country up there. It's cool to see that culture get representation

This was such a fun follow up.  I really like how these books are written. The story is fun and the cast is interesting. Too bad the series is unfinished.

Fun second book in Sixth World series. Outside world is more developed than in Trail of Lightning.
I continue to hope Roanhorse will write more in this world, but this may be it, which is sad since the last chapter here sets things up for future books.
