Enjoyed reading this during train rides, slowly digesting the content of the pages while staring out of the train windows. Read the last part today during surgery recovery, was less fond of that part to be honest. Maybe I missed the train context? Maybe I didn’t need the last bit with “how to be more connected yourself”. Made it a bit more like a self help book somehow?
Overall, I loved it but would rather read their poetry again!

I love the way Kae writes and was a book that was easy to read and also had me reflecting. I just sometimes find that in these books about creativity and connection it’s hard not to feel like writers assume their relationship with creation must be universal.

Great work, but I didn’t feel like this was revolutionary in any sense. I don’t mean that essays HAVE TO BE exceptional though. I loved the ability of the author to just let their feelings be seen by everyone. It was a beautiful thoughts collection, and it did make me reflect on myself, so : mission accomplished.

I know I will come back to this one again and again. There was so much value in it for me, as a creative person/someone doing creative work. Even just having the sense of someone else going through the same thing you are, in different ways, is a powerful feeling. Kae Tempest is an extraordinary writer and has immediately put me onto their poetry and music. Tempest just speaks to us on the level of people, on the level of individual human experience, and believes in trying to reach out to others with what we create.
