I would say that they main draw of this book is old Hollywood mystery and Bradbury's perfect turn of phrase. The book is at times v e r y slow and there is a lot of talking that doesn't really move the story forward.

Again, Bradbury's writing style is great but I think in some ways, I preferred his short stories over his novels

It took me a while to get through this one because I didn't finish it before NaNoWriMo started, so I pretty much didn't look at it at all in November. That said: I really enjoyed it. Especially getting glimpses of what Ray Harryhausen's studio must have looked like along with interactions between my favorite author and my favorite movie-magic artist (the narrator is Bradbury's fictionalized self, and Roy is Harryhausen, hands-down, no doubt. Apparently, not everyone knows they were best friends, but I'm a huge fan of both, so it made these two characters a little more magical to me). The story, itself, wasn't quite as enticing as DEATH IS A LONELY BUSINESS, but it was still an enjoyable read. I did predict a major part of it, but there was an important twist at the end that I did not anticipate at all. I have to admit that it's not my favorite Bradbury, but it's still a wonderful book.

I found that the style this was written in often made it hard to follow the gist of it. Not my favourite.

It's not a great book, but it's a beautiful book. Also, it's the second in a series and even though it can be read as a stand alone all the character introductions are confusing.

This was my first foray in Bradbury and I got some real fear and loathing and Gatsby vibes from it. A book that can't be taken too seriously, which is a book I usually struggle with a bit. The Hollywood movie and horror setting was definetely up my street though.

I did find myself drifting off a little bit in parts, but overall I found Bradbury's writing to be witty and amusing and the characters all a bit kooky and likeable. This one seems to be a lesser known Bradbury and different from his other stories and I look forward to reading more from the man.

The worst Bradbury is still Bradbury. My attention was still kept. Just wish the mystery was a little better.

auch wenn die erste Hälfe sich schleichend hinzog, schleichte die zweite Hälfte umso schneller um die Ecke!

Has a fascinating atmosphere and of course Bradbury's poetic descriptions. I don't remember the plot a whole lot from when I read it years ago. Kinda rambly.
