- Flaws of characters a main focus? N/A
This book is supposed to be a coming of age story with poetic prose that makes the reader sympathize for a young girl while also getting hot and heavy over her sexy teacher (not her actual teacher but an older adult authority figure) fantasies turned reality. It’s not. It is poorly written, the fact that so many people can’t understand it is testament to that. Just because you can string words together well does not equate good writing. I’d give poetry a shot bc then you wouldn’t have to focus on plot or character. All the characters are unlikeable, and that’s fine... if they also had any substance, but they don’t. When the book isn’t busy being dense and dramatically poetic, it is on the nose (her BFF is named Cherry and through her sexual exploration they grow distant), and honestly I’m not trying to read these graphic sex scenes with a 15 year old. Grow up. Find something better to write about. I did not see the point of this book and would not have read it if it weren’t for school. This author hasn’t written anything since and I hope she never does.
Graphic: Adult/minor relationship, Rape, Sexual assault, Sexual content, and Sexual violence
Stop trying to make your book edgy by writing about taboo topics. There is a good And respectful way to handle these subjects and this is not it. The relationship is glorified and the sex is written in such a graphic and explicit way it reads almost like erotica.
