A remarkable book!!! It was at page 11 of the book, that I decided to stop and turn the few pages back to stare at the picture of Mr. Markus Zusak. I thanked him mentally and devoured the whole book within a few days only to end up utterly heartbroken. Not in a bad way though. This heartache was the terrible sympathy I felt for Liesel Meminger, and the loss I felt as the death took all those who should have remained. Zusak seems to be a long lost twin soul of mine, who weighs and nourishes the story with such charismatic sentences. I love the way he sees everything in an imagined light. He makes me feel proud of the moment you first took up reading as a hobby. All in all, he makes me fall in love with words. The beautiful story seeps into your heart and takes up a permanent residence there. The fate of the book thief entwined with the burden of a war, simply forces you to curl up and cry. This book is special and I know I will revisit this story again and again.

I am absolutely sobbing. Markus Zusak owes me therapy now. The book does an incredible job making us fall in love with the characters, making every step of the way just the more devastating and painful and joyous. This gets my first ever 5 star rating because of the way it played with my emotions like an accordion (Reference to my favourite character, Hans Huberman). I think this book really captures the lightness of childhood and the dark, corrupting nature of war. In a way I'm glad it's over because my heart just cannot take any more of this. To Markus Zusak, I too am haunted by humans.
