This book has depth and packs an emotional punch so often missing in urban fantasy books. Great read. Wish the cover more accurately conveys the quality of the content.

I feel sorry for what happen to Mercy in this novel. I hope she overcomes her tragic event in her life.

Mercy's friend Z needs her help figuring out who's murdering fae in payment for using a fae instrument more than was offered in the last book, but things go sideways and Z is framed for the murders. Mercy continues to investigate in spite of being told to stop by many different friends and fae.
I liked this one much better than book 2, less focus on everyone being in love with Mercy and more on an actual interesting plot.

I hand it to the author for creating an amazingly unique urban fantasy world in this time and place. And, to her credit, she folded in people of color and queer people.
I don’t think I’ll read anymore, but I do appreciate the culture of family these werewolves, coyotes, witches, and faes have—although they all have their dangerous ways when emotions get the best of them.
There were too many characters to keep track of, and I never liked the word “bitch,” even if the character is the type to use it. This, however, is a minor complaint.
The bazillion rules by which these shape-shifting creatures live by, the fact that they live shoulder to shoulder with regular humans who’d rather see them gone or dead, all of this was a lot to read about.
So, although I appreciate the kick-ass female protagonist, and I love the old wooden stick that keeps following her—this one was enough. I noticed that I never really felt suspense or even much caring about any of the people in the story save perhaps Zee, the fae wrongly accused of murder. (I will allow myself to change my mind one day. Sci-fi is more my thing than fantasy.)
And, regarding the very end, I’m not sure she was really ready, as someone else reviewing here felt.
