I received this book from Netgalley/publisher in exchange of an honest review.

Who doesn’t love glitter? Well, OK, I am sure there are parents who don’t like it, haha. But I am not a parent, I am an adult who loves glitter, always did. It shines, it sparkles. And so when I saw this book up on Netgalley I just had to request it. Tell me all about Glitter and how it works!

In this gorgeous illustrated book we find out all about glitter. Why people love it which includes a lot of shiny science along with history facts. Like did you know that while glitter is quite new, people back then used shiny beetles and mica to get some sparkle and glitter on things? Yep. We modern humans aren’t the only ones in awe of fancy shiny glittery things, even back then they loved it and made sure to add it to things to just give them that bit extra! It was fun to learn how the word glitter came to and what happened to make it so. I had such a laugh at seeing who invented glitter and especially that illustration next to it. HAHA, while I love glitter that would definitely also be me if my husband was a glitter maker/inventor. I don’t mind glitter, I love it, but I also love a clean home.

I loved reading how glitter was made from aluminium to plastic sheets with vaporized metal. I loved that people are trying to make glitter even more glittery. And more tiny. Yep. If you thought sand was bad and got everywhere, wait until it is a glitter bath. Then again, I would much prefer glitter. A party in my pants. Um. Teehee.

I fall into the camp that is not a fan of glitter. Sparkles are lovely, I love a good sparkly thing, but keep that static electric glitter away from me. This book was definitely still for me! It claims to be for glitter loves and haters alike, and it follows through on that promise.
This is a fun, fast, and still decently detailed mini history of glitter. I absolutely learned a thing or two. A quick read for adults, a fun history for young readers, I found it accessible and very enjoyable.

This nonfiction kids book is fun because its about glitter, but it is also super informational, with easy to understand explanations of light refraction and microns and ecological impact, but also the history of how glitter has been used and produced. It is a bit text heavy for a group read aloud, but I think kids might have to be connected with this book rather than being drawn to pick it up on their own. However, well worth the hand-selling work!

Very informative, with sources provided and suggestions for further reading. I like the science explainer on iridescence, and appreciate that the author addresses the environmental impact and child exploitation that results from manufacturing and use of glitter.

Illustrations are created using digital media. They are colorful, but just fine overall. The writing is informative but not engaging.

Very informative (really. It covers a MULTITUDE of information) and beautiful Kids Non-Fiction. The art is charming.

I learned something that surprised and delighted me which is that the very first username I ever had Glitter + Ren from my name is actually the medieval word ('gliteren') meaning to flash or sparkle! I was obsessed with the middle ages back then I would've been delighted to know this!

The most amazing book! Very interesting, a bit long for the age we got it for. But really goes into everything about glitter! Making it, history, use, and the downsides of micro plastics.

If you know a young person maybe 11-16 interested in science and crafts and the environment/social justice, have them read this book.

Exactly what you expect from a title like that. I really enjoyed reading this book with my niece. So much so that she planned on buying herself her own copy. 5 out of 5 would recommend
