Nemám ráda, když se některé věci nedořeší, ačkoli chápu, že to k téhle knížce asi patří. Bylo to moc čtivé, pohádkově podivné a takové zasněné a zároveň brutálně realistické. Pěkná knížka.

This book was interesting. It was not my favorite, but it was well-done. It's a good reminder that everyone carries around secrets, and sometimes they just need to be shared. I liked the use of metaphors, particularly of who Cara, Bea, Alice, and Sam were. However, it was a little dark and inappropriate for my taste. There is cussing, and multiple descriptive scenes of making out, as well as a really weird relationship between an ex-stepbrother and ex-stepsister. But it was intriguing and overall a good read for people who don't mind language and intimacy, and are looking for an intro to psychological thrillers while still being able to sleep. Fans of We Were Liars will enjoy this book.

I'm sorry, I really didn't, and still don't, wanna have to say this... but I hated this book.

I just couldn't, for the life of me, like anything. There was one point, near the 60-65% mark, when I thought it was starting to get better. But then chapter 12 destroyed everything. I don't even know how I got through the last quarter. Oh wait, I do. I did it by skimming through it and sheer determination.

Now the reason I hated it is because nothing about it worked for me.

The basic plot, about the accident season, could have been interesting but it barely came into play. The whole book was just a series of explanations of random people, weirdness, smoking (weed, too) and no-explanation for things that actually needed explaning.

This book was so vague in... everything, that it didn't even make sense. I didn't know what the fuck was going on half the time and the other half, I didn't know what the thing that was going on had to do with the plot.

I also didn't like the characters at all. Cara was childish and annoying, Sam was there to be the love interest (Am I the only one who didn't find the relationship between Cara and Sam repulsive? Because a lot of people seem to.). Their mom was irritating and a terrible parent, in my opinion. Bea was just... high. Alice seemed almost sensible but then that got ruined as well.

I didn't like the writing either. It was very childish for some of the action of the characters. It felt like the author wrote about 12-year-old who got drunk often, smoked a lot and got high on ocassion. And all the illegal stuff that they were doing was mentioned so casually that everything came off as odd and out-of-place.

Finally, let's talk about the cliche-ness of it all. This book had all the cliche horror tropes.

Creepy house ✔
Shop that's only there so the main characters can go to it once ✔
Some person that may or may not exist ✔
Wind ✔
Things happening on their own ✔
Stupid characters who are stupid ✔

Pretty sure there were some other as well.

Now if that's wan't bad enough, the author had to through in some YA tropes. Like a stupid-ass love triangle and an angsty, overdramatic female protagonist.

A lot of the things about this book were overdramatic. Like the writing with the excessive use of metaphors that aren't really metaphors but just lines that sound deep but have no meaning. That was probably the reason why none of it invokes any feeling.

In fact, I didn't give a shit about anything. And other than 10% of it that made me think that the book might be getting better and the fact that it had could have been good if it weren't so poorly presented, it didn't like much.

So unless you're okay with a whole lot of weirdness and little sense, I wouldn't recommend it to you.

I was drawn in by the premise of the book. I thought that the idea of an accident season was wonderful and how the family adapted to it was well written. I loved the uniqueness of the family makeup and how that was explained in bits throughout the story. Elsie's storyline was really interesting. But, about half way through the story got too weird in an "I'm trying to be artsy" forced way. I'm glad I read it. It's not going to make my list of books I must read again, and I'm probably not going to try this author's other book.

So I really had high hopes for this because it was a unique topic. But it was so boring in the beginning. When it did pick up it a little more interesting.

Overall I didn’t like the teens or their friendship/odd relationships.

Took me forever to read/listen too because I just didn’t care. I feel bad saying that but it just wasn’t my cup of tea.

Cute YA. A bit too fantastical for my taste, but I enjoyed the forbidden love storyline and thought overall it had an important message.

From the button on the cover to the final line, I was enthralled. This book was beautifully tragic.
