Very well written and hard to put down despite the difficult subject matter - also a perspective of the war I hadn’t read about before, focusing on the Japanese occupation of Singapore. Loved the way the stories came together.

I feel bad for not loving this... The novel is of huge educational value - I had not read anything about the Japanese occupation of Singapore and Malaysia before. The prose is quite beautiful too... I really don't know why, but I just found myself counting pages to the end.
