After book 11 offered virtually no events of consequence, I went into this one with muted expectations, so it was nice to see things pick up pretty rapidly. Considering how short they both are, you'd think Wingrove would have just merged the two, as this is a much more interesting book, and massively pushes the plot ahead. In any event, I enjoyed it, and will now quietly sit around and wait for book 13.

I started rereading this series a while ago. It's been quite a while during which time Wingrove has written some prequels and has advanced the story with promises for more. It's a great series, well written with interesting characters. A lot of violence which would put some people off. I'm looking forward to future books.

At last a Chung Kuo book where we are not introduced to a dozen new subplots. Looks like we are finally moving towards the beginnings of what might one day be a conclusion.
