Super cute story. I'd really like to read the sequel. Too bad the cheapest a used copy is being sold for is $30. I really think they need to reproduce these books since Laini Taylor has gained popularity. I'm sure her fans would appreciate being able to read her first works without paying ridiculous prices. On a bright note this book is fairly easy to find and it ends well so that you don't necessarily HAVE to read the sequel.

Lovely book, I wish there were more than two Dreamdark books!

I LOVED this book! The world that the author has created is simply amazing. I loved all of the characters, especially Magpie and Talon, and who doesn't love the crows?:) Magpie was wonderfully written. Brave, tough, and stubborn, but also caring and compassionate. I can't wait to see what adventure she gets herself into in the sequel!

A classic tale with Gaelic flavor, this is young adult fairy-tale fantasy at its best. Told in a more traditional third person style, it may take modern readers a moment to adjust to multiple POV's beyond that of the singular main character, but it becomes an endearing technique that works perfectly with the genre and story.

The narrative truly shines when experienced as an audio book read by Davina Porter, who brings out the flavor and characters as no one else can. Positively delightful.

This is so not my normal style of book, but I swear Taylor could write the Pune book and it would be beautiful. Her writing is like pure poetry and brings things alive in a way so many others strive but fall woefully short. Love Taylor, Love Dreamdark, Love Magpie. So. Much. Love.

As much as I hate to DNF this, a Laini Taylor book, I just can't read it right now. I'm sorry, Blackbringer. It's not you, it's me.

"That faeries have forgotten the Tapestry; that is the greatest tragedy of all. It's the fabric of all creation and it's woven of dreams, the dreams of the Djinn. Dreams are real, Magpie. They're seed and water and sun. They're everything." -Laini Taylor, Blackbringer

Blackbringer read so quickly for me. The tone is quite young and Blackbringer reads like a middle grade.

I enjoy the whimsical elements within this story, as well as the fairies and other creatures.

The different settings within this world, or worlds, were quite colorful.

The world-building was fantastic, and very well thought out, even diving into how the bookish world came into being and this plays a huge role in the story.

Blackbringer is a 'chosen one' story.

Overall, I felt Blackbringer was well written. I could see myself continuing the series.

Years ago, after reading one of Laini Taylor's books and enjoying the first half and then being left hanging at the end with no resolution, I said I wouldn't "be fooled again". Fast forward to two weeks ago, after having totally forgotten about that, I started listening to this book. And let's just say I'm really happy that I forgot, because this was awesome!

It is YA, there's only one thread going on so it's very linear, but there's a lot of really cool lore, a badass female lead, lots of classical fairy type stuff mixed in with new ideas. It's just really fun, and she left the "teen-romance" part almost completely out of it, it was there but really subtle and not a focus of the story (like many YA novels). The writing is beautiful and made especially so because it's read by Divina Porter, who read Mists of Avalon, one of the first audio books I ever listened to, back around 1995 on a Walkman, it was at least 2 or 3 boxes of cassettes I got from the library.

The best and only book I've ever read about fairies. I didn't get really attached to the main character much, or drawn into her really, but the language was so wonderful and the world so interesting and the plot so nicely paced I didn't care. If you like fairies in any way highly recommended.
