I don’t even know where to start with this. The more time passes the more I hate it. I realize novelizations tend to be weak but I guess I was hoping for more depth from this one. There are so many aspects of the movie that could have been elaborated on- background on characters, what the hell is that plastic thing on Zorg’s head, why is Ruby Rhod (whose name is changed) so incredibly excessive, what were the wars about that killed all Korben’s friends, and on and on...

Instead, we get Korben turned into some red-faced, twitchy schoolboy on his first date. I couldn’t maintain the image of Bruce Willis in my head because Bruce Willis would not trip over himself if he had to explain sex. And, his character’s constant internal fascination with how beautiful she was- he actually used the word ‘gorgeous’. 😫 I like a strong, gruff man who’s still in touch with his emotions but this was absurd.

Leeloo’s character ends up adulterated, though to a lesser extent, as well. She has a musical laugh. She learns every Earth language in 5 minutes, which was acceptable, but then she immediately starts talking like a normal everyday human. She almost gets flirty. And then the line from The Day The Earth Stood Still wasn’t even hidden in a larger string of “ancient” gibberish.

There buts here and there that were interesting although all too brief. The explanation of the city waste system, the short look into the Mondashawans, the stuff about the Diva. But it was always fleeting. I’m glad it was short so I didn’t waste much time on it. Now, I’m just disappointed.
