Excellent conclusion to an excellent trilogy. Quick-paced, excellent prose, reads like lightning and is charged throughout with mixed drama and action. Aliens, mechs, global conflict, family issues - it's got everything. Some of the best sci-fi of recent history is right here in this series.

The Themis Files is a captivating and original science fiction series that offers a compelling blend of mystery, political intrigue, and speculative technology. Sylvain Neuvel’s innovative storytelling and well-crafted characters make it a standout addition to the genre. Despite some limitations, the series’ thought-provoking themes and suspenseful narrative ensure it is a memorable and rewarding read for fans of science fiction.

I hate this world. People are small. They're ignorant, and they're happy to stay that way. They make an effort to. They'll spend time and energy finding ways not to learn things just to feel comfortable with their beliefs.Waking Gods was the most frightening and the most tragic installment of the Themis Files for me. It touched on so many real issues that are either happening now or that could happen very easily in our world. It was a reminder that humans are incredibly flawed, there is no simple answer to the problems we face, and, "there is no objectivity. Everything is perspective."
They choose to see the world in a way that gives their life meaning. They choose. It is a choice.Neuvel has a grasp of the human condition that is so coherent and nuanced that, many times throughout this series, hurt to read. With Waking Gods, he tied up the themes of the series beautifully and yet left reminders that this life is complicated and the issues we face are many. It was a profoundly impactful series that broke my heart in so many different ways. Yet even with the realistic and tragic way he examines humanity, Neuvel still left sparks of hope for our future. These parts somehow made everything else hurt just a little more. Man, I loved this series.
I can't make the forest grow faster because I want it t. I can't will it to grow. It takes time. I hoped it could happen during mu lifetime, but I don't think it can. All I can do is plant some seeds, take care of the seedlings, and hope someone else does it after I'm gone.
