I feel uniquely...unqualified to review this. But based on just my personal enjoyment, I can't rate it very highly. It jumped around a bit too much, for me, without a very coherent storyline. It felt more like a stream of consciousness poem put to pictures, than a book with any sort of plot. I don't expect anything major in plot for picture books, but some coherency is nice.

Of course, if you are reading this to a child of mixed race, it might be far better received. Having something which affirms their identity in particular is rare, since most books about ethnic identity look at a single identity, rather than a blended one. So, in that case, this book would be a no-brainer to try out.

Just for me...I didn't come away from my reading with a good opinion, and I'm having to stick to that after another perusal. It's just...not quite good enough, for me.

My two year old boy loves reading all about Mixed Mike! The rhymes are fun, it allows us to be creative as there is always a different way to read it. Not many books depict a mixed child in this way, I’m not sure how important it is at such a young age but my son really loves how Mike has a mummy and daddy just like him. Plus it’s given him the confidence to tell people not to touch his ‘fro, haha!

Meh. This book about being racially mixed has a fairly clear target audience. I need to keep looking for one that speaks to being a mixed Asian kiddo. It was cute, but not well rhymed (which drives me nuts).

I loved the illustrations and liked the text for the most part. It lacked cohesion and flow in a few places, which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, but overall I really liked this book.

A great rhyming book about a biracial child who doesn't care what people think--he just wants to be.
There's a definite energy to the art, so that you can feel Mike running and jumping and moving all over the place. It's his desire to live life, and it's palpable. Love it.

I like the sentiment and there are some great lines like the perfect blend of dark and light part, but the beat poetry style of it just isn't for me. I would feel ridiculous reading it out loud.

A wonderful picture book which could not only be used to bolster the self-esteem of multiracial children but could also be used to help other children understand their experience.

Another one I would have loved to have read as a kid. More visibility for multiracial families and children!
