I’ve been meaning to get up to speed on ‘Green Lantern,’ mostly because of its rich history and sci-if milieu. “Rebirth” seemed like a good jumping-on point for the reader with a passing familiarity with the character.

Unfortunately, “Rebirth” is everything I dislike about superhero comics: unidimensional characters, a complex backstory that mystifies newcomers, and conflicts that always seem to boil down to a bunch of luchadores punching one another.

I spent half this comic wondering what was going on, and the other half not caring. Still, “Rebirth” is very nicely drawn. At least it has that going for it.

This book is the reintroduction of Hal Jordan, the Silver Age Green Lantern, back into the DC Universe as the "greatest Green Lantern" again in the mid 2000's. This book does a pretty good job of undoing the mess that turning Hal Jordan into a mentally unstable murderer and supervillain did to the Green Lanterns. You can see the foundation of the emotional spectrum rings and the Green Lantern Corps being set but I didn't like this books use of the Justice League (particularly Batman) except for Green Arrow. Overall a good use of the old and new to "reset" the lore of the Green Lantern's without a complete reboot.

I started reading Green Lantern with the 2011 DC reboot, I since back dated and restarted from this.

DCs Green Lantern Rebirth comic is a good place to start for anyone getting into the comic series, a lot of events have happened since this was release and I definitely recommended any new readers start from here.

Not really a big DC fan, but this was a nice return of Hal Jordan.

I'm not a huge Johns fan but I have to hand it to him: this miniseries rocks.

(Going to try and keep this as spoiler-free as possible) This was one of the first mainstream DC comics I ever read, and back then, I loved it. Now, after having read the majority of the Green Lantern comics published both the decade preceding and the decade following this series, I can still say: This is a great story. It takes everything that had happened before and synthesized it into one cohesive narrative; it provides solid reintroductions to each of the major players in the Green Lantern world; it adds tons of small and large details to the Green Lantern concept; and most importantly, it provides a direction for moving forward. All of this is accomplished while simultaneously providing a fun, epic adventure story and some hyper-detailed art-based action. This may not be the best Green Lantern story ever (that's saved for later in Johns' Lantern run), but this is by far the most important Green Lantern story of the past 20 years. New readers may not get the complete picture at first, but if you strap in and prepare to enjoy it, it's a great ride. If you'd rather start where the new status quo begins, start at [b:Green Lantern, Vol. 1: No Fear|160844|Green Lantern, Vol. 1 No Fear|Geoff Johns|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1348229053s/160844.jpg|155245].
