I don't know how to rate this one. It was very wordy, and a lot could have been cut out, so I skimmed quite a bit. I also wasn't a fan of Aislinn. I know she was very young, but I hated her tantrums and running away from her problems. Yet I couldn't help but be invested in her relationship with Teagan. I think he was a very sweet and caring guy, and he definitely had the patience of a saint. I hated the hypocrisy though where he always wanted Aislinn to talk to him, but when the issues with his family came up, he didn't talk to her and left her to wonder, and then all of the blame was put on her when she jumped to conclusions. Aislinn's brother? Completely nuts! He should have been sticking up for Aislinn at ALL TIMES, not just when it was convenient for him. And why would a guy in college care if high school kids thought he was cool or not?! Grow up, dude!

I only got 60% through this book before having to put it down. The summary says shy/introvert, but this isn't involved in the book at all. Her weight is mentioned in the first 2 chapters and that's it. Bland plot.

Couldn't connect with these characters. They were 1 dimensional and kinda Annoying. And then there is the part where a 23 year old is coming on to a 17 year old high school girl. I just can't get past that. Usually age differences don't bother me, 21 I could have handled. But 23 and 17 is just a little too strange a gap and it makes me uncomfy.

Cute/sweet YA romance. Aislinn's insecurities were a little annoying but totally realistic given her age and the years of bullying. She is a little innocent and naive but it annoyed me how everyone (including BFF Penny) treated her like a child. And how Cooper blamed her whenever things went bad as a result of his bad decisions or choices. I liked how Teegan always defended her whenever Cooper was being a dick and how he insisted they talk about stuff if something was bothering her so they could work it out which is why it particularly annoyed me that he didn’t talk to her about his brother. No wonder she believed the there was a problem. I enjoyed this one and how it finished so I wont be reading the next one cause from reading the blurb and reviews I am pretty sure all the angst, ex gf drama and lack of communications (because otherwise there wouldn't be any drama to write about) will annoy me.

Pivotal Moments is the first book in the new 'In Time' series by Trinity Hanrahan. I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it for young adults.

The story is about Aislinn Munroe an introvert senior in High School. Aislinn is doing the normal post-high school preparations to get into college. Shes getting ready for life beyond high school and doesn't really know where she'll fit in the world. Although her curves are to kill for, she's also smart and funny but she isn't popular which is just fine with her. Aislinn's introverted ways are about to be put to the test when her brother, Connor, comes home from college on spring break and brings his hot roommate, Teegan, with him. Teegan Aldridge is a reformed party animal, ladies' man and bad boy. He's the last person Aislinn thought would ever show her attention but when they become unlikely friends, he brings out a side of herself she never knew existed.

Overall I thought the story was well written, I actually read it quite quickly and it kept my interest throughout. I was impressed that this was the authors debut novel.
The novel is written from Aislinn's point of view and I'm sure many high school girls would be able to relate to some of the situations she finds herself in.

I enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to reading what happens next in Aislinn and Teegan's relationship.

I give Pivotal Moments 4 stars.

I received a digital copy of this book for free for an honest review

It was not a bad book, but there was a lot of things in it that irritated me.

The book had a smart, insecure, but beautiful main character, a BFF who was there to help the main character see that she was beautiful and the BFF is in love with the main characters brother,
Super sexy, older guy, a bitchy cheerleader, overconfident football player and a overprotective brother. A classic YA high school drama.

My biggest problem with the story, though, was with the main character Aislinn and her behavior, I know that she was only 17, has problems with her body and a mean cheerleader, but everytime something didn’t go her way, she’d throw one of her fits, she’d cry, she’d stop talking, she’d refuse to tell the other person what was going on until they had to plead over and over again, it was just to much and to childish .

Teagan the older sexy best friend of the brother, I liked him, but i don't know why he put up with Aislinns behavior especially with the big ages leap there was between them.

And then there was the brother, he was just way to overprotective and the things he did, just no.

Over all it was a ok book.

Pivotal Moments is a lovely, quick YA romance. To be fair, it's not the most original story - it’s pretty cliché really. But it's such a fun read.

Pivotal Moments it told from Aislinn's point-of-view. This is great at showing Aislinn's personality and fears. She is pretty introverted and doesn't really open up to people. I can sort of relate to her in this way. But I did think she was quite immature and naive a lot of the time. If she didn't get her own way, she would just give everyone the silent treatment. I mean, come on, she's 17, not 7.

I really liked Teagan. Like really, really liked him. He's a bit of a reformed bad boy and just sounds so hot. I want a Teagan in my life. I also loved that he was quite a bit older than Aislinn. There's a five-year age gap. I thought that this was quite unique for a YA contemporary! I find the love interest is nearly always the same age as the main character, if not maybe a year older. And Teagan also has Zver. He sounds like the best dog ever! (After my own that it.)

Pivotal Moments is a quick read. However, I didn't really think there was too much to the plot. It was pretty basic boy-meets-girl, boy-falls-for-girl really. There were a few plot twists along the way, but again they were pretty cliché and predictable. I kind of wish there was some more confrontation, especially near the end involving the instigator of a major plot twist.

I did think there was a nice ending the story, though. There was no cliff-hanger and Aislinn and Teagan's story wrapped up neatly. I do wish some of the minor plots were tied up a bit more though as it felt one little backstory was left hanging. However, this could possibly be addressed in the sequel.

Pivotal Moments is a nice, easy and quick read that I think would be perfect for fans of YA romance. It is cliché, but who doesn't like a bit of cliché every so often.

Aislinn is your typical teen who shares many of the insecurities about her body and concerns about college that teens have. As she’s nearing the end of her senior year her focus is on her college preparation, and while she has never been part of the popular crowd, she has her best friend Penny at her side and that’s all she needs...Enter, swoon worthy Teagan, her brother’s delicious college friend with a heartbreaker past and his eye on Aislinn. However, things may not be smooth sailing, with an overprotective brother, the mean girls out to get her and her own anxieties holding her back, there is going to be some turbulent waters.

---------

I am on the fence with this book. While I enjoyed it for its entertainment value, it was just lacking something which I can’t quite put my finger on. While there were certain aspects which I imagine many teens can relate to, such as the main characters insecurities and lack of self-esteem. I fear I am past the point in my life where I find these things as relatable as I once did. However, I commend the author on the emotional growth of the character, there is nothing worse than when a character doesn’t learn anything. But Aislinn, learned to both believe in and stand up for herself.

I did enjoy the cute fluffy romance at times, even if it was a little cheesy. Teagan was an easily likeable character and his past indiscretions were a good addition as they made him more ‘human’, since he sometimes came off as too flawless. Penny and Connor (and Zver for that matter) made great supporting characters. Although Connors big protective brother routine became almost frustrating, especially considering his own poor decisions.

Overall, an entertaining read if you’re looking for something fluffy to fill your summer days, which I think a younger YA audience would enjoy. However, for me there was a certain predictability to the plot that was a little too formulaic for my taste.

Pivotal Moments is a YA novel and MC Aislinn is a typical teenager. Almost 18 she struggles with normal teenage issues like weight and self esteem. Her older brother Connor brings his best friend Teagan for spring break and Aislinn is immediately taken with him (and his big dog!). She is confused when Teagan seems to be into her and the book is about overcoming her insecurities. This book is indeed about pivotal moments (coming of age, going to college and first love).

I really liked the writing style of the author. Although I am not into YA at all, I did like the novel and can imagine YA's will enjoy this story. I rate it 3 stars, but it could be 3,5.

I hope the author will consider adult romance as I would read that.
