Great fantasy world. Draws you in quickly despite the numerous races and names to learn, and learn to care about characters quickly.

The first third or so was a bit rough to get into, but when everything clicked into place I was in it until the end.

A great start to an exciting new series! Sullivan has created a rich world with well developed characters. There is a good balance between strong female and male characters, so the story should appeal to a wide audience. I look forward to the rest of the series!

I have mixed feelings about this book but overall they are positive. The start was painfully slow for me. And by the start I mean I wasn’t very into the book until 50%. Then it really grabbed me and I loved it. Then towards the end it lost me again. And finally, at the end I liked it a lot again.

There’s nothing inherently bad in this book. I just found it a little boring sometimes. I don’t think it helps that I didn’t realise it was quite Celtic fantasy, as I would describe. It’s tribes and chiefs rather than kingdoms and monarchs. It’s nice to branch out from my comfort zone though.

I thought the humans were just that, humans. And I’m not super interested. The elves seem a lot cooler, I like the strangeness that comes about because they live so long.

I really enjoyed the interactions between the main characters. The banter often has a dry wit to it that I love. There’s a lot of quite funny lines. Honestly all of the main characters were good. I love weird little feral child Suri. The main villain was a bit of a generic evil but I don’t care all that much.

Annoying characters were done so well it genuinely made me angry. Like when Persephone is basically gaslit and stopped from doing what was clearly the best and most sensible things, I was genuinely feeling her outrage.

I’ll probably add to this later but yeah. I enjoyed and will probably continue in the series but I’m not in a huge rush to do so.
