If you read Maid, this is the sort-of sequel. We learn about what happens to Stephanie after she leaves Washington. She makes it to Montana, but her troubles aren't over yet! This book chronicles her last year at college as she strives to graduate and figure out how to get into the coveted MFA program while also trying to get her daughter through kindergarten, all on a very tiny budget that always seems to be running out. Truly a first person account of how class impacts one's ability to improve their life, for themself and their child/ren.

It was riveting and depressing and beautiful all at the same time. More people should read this to understand how society sets up people to not be able to pull themselves out of poverty, and the incredibly amount of strength and luck it takes to make it.
