Love this one! Christian Robinson’s art never fails to delight and amaze. A very sweet story, short, simple, and effective. Enjoyed reading!

This was...........so cute.........  With Christian Robinson's usual adorable style and Ashman's means of telling two stories that later convene, this makes for a fun tale of sharing perspectives and finding joy in the smaller things.  With a stark difference between our main characters--an older white grumpy man and a young, excited child of color--the two also have already formed their opinions on the dreary weather and find their own ways to express themselves.  But when their paths align, one grumpy man's heart begins to warm up a little bit.  It's a hopeful book, suggesting that even the grumpiest person can change their mood with the help of an optimistic child.  Great for children ages 2-4.

This makes a good mentor text for showing points of view. The actions of an old man and a little boy run parallel. The old man is grumpy about the rain, the puddles, everything. The little boy is excited about the rain, the puddles, everything. When the old man leaves his hat behind in the Rain or Shine Cafe, the little boy brings it to him.

"You!" the old man grumps.
The little boy puts the old man's hat on his own head and imitates him. "You!"

This works to shift the old man's mood. (I know some grumpy old people. I won't try imitating them to see if it makes them happier. I am not a cute little boy.)

A book to show how other people's attitudes can affect others. Perfectly delightful.

A little hard to follow the sequence of the panels on some of the pages.
