Incredible. Absolutely incredible. Manages to hit the highs of the original trilogy. Massive turns that would have been really hard to pull off from a writing perspective. So so so good.

A perfectly serviceable Brandon Sanderson novel. That is to say it is highly entertaining, imaginative, contains great action scenes, has straightforward prose (but unpredictable plot), and has little moral/character grayness. Sometimes I want something a little more challenging, but I am mostly perfectly happy to enjoy Sanderson’s style.

The scope widens a bit in The Bands of Mourning. We start to understand some of goings-on and characters playing larger roles in the fate of Scadriel and the Cosmere.

Hoid even makes an appearance for the first time in the 2nd era.

I really enjoyed the first half of this book. It’s ending is fun, but I felt that there was a lot of new info dumped into the last section of the book and it was a bit overwhelming at times.
