I enjoyed this so much more than my reread ofShadows of Self, and more than I did last time too, helped that I understood more this time around. Fully on board now with the characters, Steris being my favourite. The action is second to none, the mysteries compelling, the development of the magic system intricate and clever, and the final words gave me goosebumps even though I already knew what was coming! I am so excited to go straight into The Lost Metal now and can't believe I waited this long to get to it.

1st read, August 2019:
So much to enjoy in this, love the settings, the action, love most of the characters (Wayne, Steris, Marasi, Allik being my favourites in this book). It does get a bit confusing at times, by the end I felt like I was losing a grip on all the metals and powers, and I hadn't felt like that in books 1 & 2 about the magic system. There are also a few aspects of the plot, related to what happened in book 2 too, that I'm a bit confused about, and I'm not sure I'm on board with Harmony. However, it's the characters, action and the writing in general that makes me happy to keep reading!
