Best of the series so far!! Steris is a quirky and amazing character. Excited to read the final instalment! Mistborn a secret history will tide me over until the lost metal is available at the library!

Will probably write a longer review later but right now know this: I loved it, can't wait for more Steris and Wax both together and apart, had a nervous breakdown for the last 100 pages as usual, I have A LOT of questions that need answers.

Also I'm planning on reading The Lost Metal once I'm done with Secret History so maybe in a day or two.

I did write a little more detailed "short" one but goodreads and my phone decided to be difficult and deleted it. So I'm left with this for now ✨

I can’t believe I’m rating a Brandon Sanderson book so low!

I love Sanderson’s work. The first Mistborn book is even one of my favorite books! So it just really hurts that I’m having to give this such a low rating.

There’s a couple things that have bothered me throughout Era 2. For one, I’m not too fond of the characters. Wax is boring, and much more sexist than I think he realizes. Wayne was funny in the first book, but then his comments quickly became annoying (and his misogyny…. MY GOD. REALLY put me off in this book). Marasi I’ve always felt is kind of… bland? Like, I feel like her main character trait is “I am a woman in a man’s world, sexism bad!” which maybe could have been interesting, but I feel like that’s really the only thing she has going for her as a character so not really. MeLaan’s whole schtik is just being unaware that humans find it weird she talks so openly about her huge boobs.

(Steris is not included in this list!! She’s great!! Go go Steris!!)

Once again, I find myself thinking the same thing I’ve been thinking since I started Era 2: I miss Luthadel. I miss the old crew, the world that we used to know. Not only was the aesthetic one I vibed with more (I’m not too fond of Westerns, tbh) but I miss the ideals the old crew embodied too. I can’t help but think that the old crew were revolutionaries, and the new crew are cops. It saddens me how regressed Scadrial has become. It really feels like Luthadel was a more progressive place than Elendel now is. I wish the old crew could come back and tear it all down again.

The main reason I’m giving this book a much lower rating than the previous two is because it felt a lot like a bad Hollywood sequel of a popular franchise. Like, I watched the new Jurassic World movie the other day and it reminded me a lot of that. It just feels like the Mistborn books have forgotten what they stood for, and what made them so appealing in the first place.

I’ll continue to read the series because I want to get the whole Cosmere picture (I’m really interested in how this will affect The Stormlight Archives), but I won’t be too happy about it.

Sorry Brando.
