Personal preference, but I don’t enjoy the steampunk/western setting as much as a more traditional fantasy setting. I also felt like the ending of the main storyline was a bit rushed and silly.
Finally, why set up all this political turmoil when your protagonist hates politics and keeps insisting someone else will deal with it. I’d rather read a series about the person who is working for worker’s rights, or trying to negotiate fair treatment for the outer cities. Wax is pretty insufferable and selfish when compared to Vin and Eland.
That said, the very end of the book gave me goosebumps, so I didn’t hate it!
My hot take: Wax would be a total nimby if he lived in modern times.

Dragged a bit toward the end but it really expands on the scope of the world. Great book, really looking forward to reading the Lost Metal finally after finishing my re-read of the trilogy (which I guess is now a quadrilogy).
