I love the way the text is presented as a poem, but what I love most about it book are the illustrations. There are no frames around the pages, so you feel as if you are really a part of the story.

Me encanta que con un lenguaje sencillo mantiene una atmósfera misteriosa. Con pocas palabras logra describir y causar curiosidad por igual, captando la sensación de asombro que causan el mar y sus criaturas.

So cool! While I was learning about Giant Squids, I also felt like I was watching a very exciting movie.

Outstanding nonfiction picture book about an elusive creature of the deep! Loved the endnote material as well.

June 2019 - it reads almost like a horror story, but it's all true. I loved the drama of the page turns and the slow reveal of the giant squid. It works great as a read aloud.

I am now terrified of giant squid. And also fascinated by them.

Thank you, Mary Van Akin for sending me the ARC; now I must get a copy (or two) for my students.

I support independent bookstores. You can use this link to find one near you: http://www.indiebound.

A great picture book about an animal that has less close up photographs than the surface of Mars. Picture book format is my favorite vehicle for nonfiction and the team of Fleming and Rohmann deliver a fascinating and beautiful engaging book. Can't recommend it enough.

Rarely do I use the word atmospheric for the children's non-fiction I buy. This was creepy, informative, and fantastic.
