An excellent middle grade dystopian title for fans of Hunger Games or Divergent, but not quite ready for that level of reading. I liked that this is a stand alone title and even though some of the programming talk got a bit confusing, it kept my attention.

Dystopian novels are not typically my favorite, but I really liked this one. It's focus on the fragile balance of nature, and the far ramifications for throwing it out of balance, resonated with me. (And, I love bees...) The author does a nice job of raising issues of the information age without it being too heavy-handed. I really like the journey Yoly goes on, from a girl consumed with tech and fearful of nature to a girl with a more balanced view of tech and a respect for nature. Also - a shout-out to the illustrator. More upper middle grade novels should have illustrations. The readers are asking for it - just look at the popularity of comics and graphic novels!

The ending leaves open the chance for a sequel - looking forward to seeing what Pablo Cartaya has planned.

This was very cute and very suspenseful! Cartaya has imagined a dangerous and interesting future, and Yoly is plucky and smart as a whip. The writing here is solid for a middle grade audience and the plot is engaging, though some points are handed to the reader on a silver platter, which I don't love.

Hunger Games meets Last Cuentista meets A Wish in the Dark. I think this could even be compared a bit to The Uglies. Good book, I think middle grade students will enjoy it.

This was really great! I feel like MG dystopian is hard to do, but this one does it really well!

Hm, 3.5 stars but rounding up for the setting and the message I guess?
