Reread/relisten. Same as before. Loved getting Bill in the mix with Twig and Quinn now on to the third!

4 stars

I enjoyed this one more than book one. Bill is such a great secondary character, hope we get more of him next book too or even better he gets his own book! Haha

Twig and Quinn are a good pairing, yes they have their issues, but they always come back together and I love that.

Can’t wait for book 3!

Overall a highly entertaining sequel!

This continues to impress with a large contingency of fantastical beings, implementing this time around dark elves, crooked dwarves, an imp, a vamp, and a goblin, not to mention gargoyles, more dragons and demon goodness, hellhounds, griffins, and garden gnomes galore!

What failed for me just a tad was that this was on the side of too long, mostly encompassing Twig and Quinn’s intense but new, relationship. Both these guys have a shit ton of issues regarding their pasts, regarding their need for independence and control, and when you toss in wizard/familiar dynamics with a potential mate bond messing with their magical mojo, their relationship is anything but easy. Hence, they debated, they argued, they avoided talking at times, they went caveman on each other. It was repetitive with circular arguments going round and round making my head spin and decreasing my enjoyment a bit…. BUT!!!

All in all, the story arc, the set up for the next sequel was impressive, delivering a well thought out mystery steeped heavily in fantasy. There were also some enlightening answers about Twig’s background, and seeing Twig and Quinn grow their own special brand of family (which was absolutely the best part) plus having some nice smexy obviously didn’t hurt things at all. Most importantly, I was entertained, especially with the last 3rd of the story which was crazy intense, leaving me worn out and affected in all the best ways. The dangling new threads left by Maslow only reassuringly solidified that more is to come for this unique series!

Be Fairy Game
4.5 stars

Be Fairy Game picks up shortly after book 1 ended. While this could be read as a stand-alone - most of the plot points don’t overlap - you’d be spoiling book 1 which would be a shame.

I loved all the characters that make up this world. They are all interesting, even the baddies. There are several adventures our guys go on and the action was great. The love story progressed, and although sometimes I wanted to slap both Twig and Quinn upside the head on occasion, I really like this couple.

There is more I could say but it would run to spoilers. It is sufficient to say it was a greatly entertaining book and I recommend this series!

An entertaining wacky escapade that leans into the ridiculousness of the world and the story. Over the top silly with some sweet moments.

I found this less fun than the first book. Twig was more annoying than endearing and I wasn't that interested in the plot. I did really enjoy the found family vibes with Twig declaring them all a clan, but not enough to continue with the series.

A stellar sequel. Once again we get the silly over the top humor of drunken ghost pirates and vegetarian demons. We also get a surprising amount of heart and mystery!!! Twig must face his painful past as his current investigation not only leads to murders, but signs of his old dragon clan.

I enjoyed this one a bit less than the first book. The unbalaced relationship between Quinn and Twig bothered me. The fact that he can control Twig's dragon (and thus Twig himself) troubled me. I really hope that once mated, they'll be both on an equal footing -drawing strengh from each other BUT NOT controlling the other.

Not quite as funny as the first book because the tone was more serious but still very entertaining and I had a great time listening to it! Greg was, as always, marvelous!

Another hilarious addition to this series!

Twig and Quinn are enjoying their happily...for now. I'd say "ever after" but their story is far from over.
While searching for a mystical weapon the group - now including a ghost pirate parrot with an alcohol problem and a soft-hearted demon who wears glasses and bowties - faces murder, scheming politicians, old foes, and more.

My main complaint with this book is at times it felt like too much was happening. I lost the plot a few times as things swung back and forth between all the different problems they were facing.
SpoilerThere was even a moment in the middle of the story where I realized their client had died and I had somehow missed that entire scene.
My secondary complaint, is the scene in the club. That was too close to dubcon for me. I can see what the author was going for, Twig actually wanting something to happen but being too wrapped up in his masculinity to try, but personally, the whole thing made me as uncomfortable as Quinn.

Although I was at times lost and a little uncomfortable, the story wasn't bad. Maybe a little sophomore slump. The humor was still laugh-out-loud funny, I liked learning more about Twig and his family, and Quinn really kicked butt.

Overall, this installment gets 4.5 stars for me. Greg Boudreaux is once again an amazing narrator and I'm eager for book 3.

Okay, I take back some of what I said about losing the plot. Maybe I was distracted the first time around because everything moved smoothly this time. There was still a lot going on all at once, but I didn't have any issues keeping up :)
