‘...the secret of happiness is low expectations.’
A tad slow, and the millennial daughter kinda annoyed the hell out of me (even if I liked some of what she had to say, including the quote above)...but overall a delightful historical fiction read.

a hard one to say what i liked about it. story? maybe not so much. characters? very much! writing style? a dream!
an odd one, this book. really depressing, but also incredibly funny.

As a Cuban, I've unfortunately gotta remove one star because the whole Cuba is an utopia bullshit.
(The world is a complicated place and Castro's Cuba is not the solution.)
Other than that, this book is gloriously thought-provoking and as beautiful as all other Kinsolver writing.
