I want to preface this by saying it heavily discusses eating disorders;
This book was an incredibly raw, unflinching look at a girl with an eating disorder – it was very difficult to read at times, in terms of the sheer brutality, the clinical detachment of our narrator.

There are no euphemistic niceties here, and I would say that people who have experienced an ED should consider this a TRIGGER warning.

Yet It was such a raw and captivating story and I felt it handled the topic well. I really felt for the characters. The story was sad and disheartening (an intrinsic quality when it comes to mental illness) but I just felt Haston did a really amazing job with it.

i think this book explored some really important topics in such a great way, the reason i’m rating it 3 stars is because, although i did enjoy it, i feel as though this is a book that you’d give an amazing rating/review on if you genuinely connected with it & while i did connect with certain parts, i didn’t connect with the story as a whole, so yes i liked it but it wasn’t perfect for me & that’s all i have to say :)

What I liked about this book is that it underlined a lot that eating disorders stem about wanting to be in control; more often than not, it's not about body image. I feel like this isn't clarified enough in popular culture. The amount of people who still believe people with anorexia nervosa or bulimia have this drastic behaviour change just because they ''want to be thin'' is astonishing. Speaking from experience most of the times the victims feel as if the only thing they can control in their life is food and their eating habits. The narrator of the book was very adamant on this. I also loved how grief was explored and that the author balanced it very well within the context of the story. Wish this book was more popular!
