Abdurraqib is an incredible writer. This book uses basketball to set the stage for a deeply personal work about the life and how where you're from defines it. Like most of his work, you never know where the next sentence will take you. Throughout this book i felt like I was living in a dream, which made me feel vindicated as the final pages wrapped up. At times I almost felt like this book strayed too far from the central theme, but the personal experiences and intimate details shared make this more than worthwhile.

An intensely nostalgic, culturally relevant book filled with the most beautiful prose wrought with poetic justice and love for those wishing to ascend: a novel retelling of the underdog.
The book's structure was my favorite part, as it was divided into parts like a basketball game, including a timeout!
Each quarter included anecdotes of not only Hanif's life, Ohio, and of course, Lebron.
This is a must read!
