Започна много интересно, но ентусиазмът ми бързо “увяхна”. Не ме докосна с нищо, направо ми беше скучна. Някои от персонажите ми се сториха категорично излишни.

"When I first saw him, he seemed to me a typical Indian clerk, meek and bowed with many cares. But now I see that he is not meek and bowed at all - or only outwardly - that really inside himself he is alive and yearning for all sorts of things beyond his reach."
Speedy summary: A woman goes to India to discover the scandalous life of her deceased relative through her letters left behind.
Thoughts: A novel with stark contrast between quality of life of Europeans living in India, "royalty" in India and the native peoples and parallels between the lives of two caucasian women in India though 50 years apart. A short novel that bops back and forth between the two time periods, a style of novel I typically enjoy and while I did find the novel interesting, it wasn't quite the right time for me to read it. I also didn't particularly care for the character Olivia.
WARNING (and spoiler): There is sexual content in this novel, and also discussion of miscarriage and abortion which may be triggering.

I really enjoyed this book! The transitions between the two time periods were seamless and I liked how the two lives had moments when they mirrored each other. If I’m being entirely honest Olivia annoyed me a bit, but I suppose she was an example of English women of the time. The ending also felt rather abrupt to me but that’s just a personal opinion. Overall I seriously enjoyed the book and would recommend it to others.

Had to read it for school, didn't like it. Didn't manage to finish it in time.
