this was absolutely one of the best poetry collections I've ever read. lovelace's voice is just so powerful and unique, even when writing about such simple things. I love mix of classical and modern references in these poems; none of them feel out of place. I cannot wait to read more of lovelace's poetry, she is definitely a new favorite of mine

Poetry.

Amazing collection. Some favorites: "Veterans Memorial Drive," "After the Funeral," "Ugly," "Ruff Ryders Anthem," "Roll Tide," and "Finally, Weep Freely."

“Collective memory / is a hell of a snag.” Whew. Though I’ve been meaning to read this for several years, somehow this one snuck up on me; I’ve definitely got a lot to chew on from its pages!

Brilliant book!! Reading it made my smile, laugh, and yet my heart was at times heavy. When I finished the book, I wanted more...I can't wait to read more of Nabila Lovelace's work.

When I began reading this book of poetry, I found myself unable to get into it. So I put it down for a day or two. When I came back to it, I read each poem out loud in the confines of my basement and sat back after each reading to stare at the fire. This meant reading this book took longer, but each poem was felt and that was right.

Poems that stuck out to me, Veterans Memorial Drive, Hourglass, For The Days That Are Today (especially that last one)

This collection had a lot of promise. The theme and the message were important. Some of the poems and lines were powerful. I feel like it’s unfair of me to ask someone to be more vulnerable, but I feel like the poet was barely letting the reader in which made it hard to connect to the pieces.
