Could have been a good book for kids if they had left out the words stupid and butt. Not giving this to my kids to read.

The use of the words "stupid" and "butt" make me hesitant to purchase for younger kids.

Extremely cute animals who love to build sandcastles ultimately face bullies by building an amusement park by operating heavy machinery. This book defies gender norms, enforcing that power is not restricted to masculinity, and that kindness has power as well.

My husband wanted more machinery in this book. I'll say that up front (hence why we do not have a "transportation" tag)

It's a great one to use for anti-bullying and getting along. Some books could be better in delivery (and honestly, I have seen cuter animals). But this book does get a good response in storytime.

My kids ask me to read this book over and over again. That’s always a good sign. They are 5 and 4, girl and boy.

Extremely cute is right. I thought the cute animals were very cute. Karen is the main cute animal and she has a pink tutu and purple shoes. Her friends are cute as well but we never know their names. A pink pig in her bikini and bows on her ears. A blue bear plus others that I really couldn't tell you what they are. Karen and her friends are being bullied by three bullies. They tear down the sand castles that Karen and her friends keep building. It's nice to see that the ones being bullied are not giving up and continue to do what they want. A cute book but not enough cute animals operating heavy machinery.

PreK-Up -- “Being extremely cute doesn’t mean you can’t get EXTREMELY MAD!” Uh-oh. After a trio of playground bullies assert their dominance by knocking down the adorable sand castles Karen and her extremely cute friends have made - three times - the little critters bring in the big guns. With bulldozer, crane, and heavy-lift helicopter, they weld a superstructure of I-beams into place, and construct a sand castle amusement park. Mike, Skyler, and Trent will never be able to knock such a thing down, but even worse - the new park has a “no bullies” policy. Fortunately, Karen understands that bullying is a behavior, not an identity, and lets the bigger critters in once they appear to be appropriately contrite. Bright pastel colors and smooth, broad shapes give the digital art a springtime feel, and you can almost hear the toylike characters chirp and cheer as they work and play together.
