There's been so much praise and criticism flung at Martin's works, as is customary for any pop-fiction sensation that is brought to the screen. It isn't perfect, but I still loved it. It's been a few years since I watched the first season of HBO's adaptation, but from what I recall of it, I think I can say that the first season of the show was an excellent adaptation, following the book very well. The biggest difference I can recall is that HBO, being HBO, threw in more sex & naked people than what was actually in the text. For example: There's a difference between reading that a secret meeting happens to take place in a whorehouse versus viewing a scene introduction consisting of lingering camera shots of all the things going on in the other rooms of the said establishment ;)

Overall, it was fun to escape to Westeros at the end of the day, and I'm certain I will be acquiring the next volume in short order. Recommended to fans of the show, as well as fans of sweeping, epic, politically-charged fantasy.

What a relief that I finally done with this! A review? Probably just a brief one because many people have full reviewed this book.

So, what I like?
1. Daenerys Targaryen - awesome, breathe fire and mother to three dragons!
2. Khal Drogo - because he was portrayed by Jason Momoa. Haha sorry very biased on my part.
3. Jon Snow - I liked reading his thoughts.
4. Arya Stark - very fierce.
5. Tyrion Lannister - wicked sense of humour.

I hate most of the bad people, villains in this book. Because they live. Ugh.

And also good people too and these are on top of my good-side-hate-characters list.
1. Catelyn Tully - I don't care if you like her because to me, she should be dead, replace Lord Eddard instead. I hate her the moment I read her hatred towards Jon Snow. I hate her as the story went. She is just ticked me off all the time. She's on the good side yes, but I just can't seem to like her.
2. Sansa Stark - she is just plain stupid to the core.
3. Viserys Targaryen - arrogant like hell! Truly glad Khal Drogo 'crowned' him.

I will continue with the series. Problem is I just don't know when because thick book is utterly daunting to read. I believe it will be soon.

Read on your own peril!

It does feel a bit slow at the beginning except for the characters I like most, but by the last quarter I would say I didn't want to put it down and only did so because I had work or school. Looking forward to the next one.

this was splendid and i would love nothing more than to give it a 5/5, although i cannot pretend i didn’t notice george’s odd fascination with breast milk. like dude seriously it’s creepy at this point leave my girl alone. but other than that it was incredible, all-consuming, and sooo well thought out, though one thing george does lack is subtlety lol
