This one was a silly story. I know that does not mean much for a children's story, but all the same, this one was silly. But, it sticks with the vein of the Oz series so far. We get Dorothy back in Oz along with her old friends and some new friends. Worth reading if you are going to go through the series anyway.

A wonderful story! I always remember loving this story, but now that I have poultry, I love it even more because one of the main characters is a chicken. The jabs at the military are quite extreme. Unfortunately, the reader in the Librivox version has a kind of odd cadence to her voice, which was hard to get used to at first.

For its time, in context, four stars. Readers wanted more of Oz and its characters, and here it is. This is creative, amusing, and sometimes clever. It won't change the lit'ry landscape, but it was never meant to.

Now this book I remember quite well—partly because much of the movie Return to Oz was based on it, but more because I'm sure I had to have read it several times when I was young. While I enjoy it quite a lot, and more than any of the other books it sets up further adventures, it's also very slight when it comes to things actually happening. Still, Ozma remains the best.

The characters of Baum's third book are fantastic, original, and imaginative.
