This book is one of the most questionable books I have ever read. Chillingly creepy and addictive. I would highly recommend this book.

This book is not for everyone but I loved it's quirkiness and morbidity. The writing is wonderful, you just get lost in the story and I found myself thinking about the story when I wasn't reading it. Always a good sign in my opinion.

Weird is the first word that comes to mind when I think of this book. As the two stars show, in my opinion it was okay. It was a quick read that was sorta, kinda interesting. I found my face contorting a lot while reading it and not on purpose... Read it a while ago now and I still am not 100% sure how I feel about it. Just, weird.

Creepy short novel about twin brothers who taxidermy their mother after her death - the curse of the Rumbaughs refers to a curse of loving your mother too much. The novel is mostly about their niece and her inheritance of the family curse.

I really like Jack Gantos. I find his Joey Pigza and Norvelt books hilarious and very authentic. That's why I was expecting something hilariously macabre from the title and reviews of this book. I guess I had high expectations. The book was told from a girl's POV, which might have been what started it off on the wrong foot. It was interesting and well-informed, but I just couldn't get into it the way I could with his other novels. There were no bursts of laugh-out-loud that I usually get from Gantos. So, interesting, but a hard sell to a YA audience who might find it too weird to be realistic and too boring and outdated to be a supernatural thriller. As far as a coming of age novel, his other books are just better.

So, so odd...but that is the Gantos way. I have mixed emotions. I didn't hate it, but I didn't necessarily love it either. The story is intriguing and I've always been fascinated by the author's style, but I guess I am just having trouble connecting to the characters on an emotional level. I didn't feel drawn to any of them and thought the story simple in regards to character development.
