it was such a fun read. i think many folks were too hard on it. my real rating is 3.5, but because that’s not an option i’ll round up. i’ll also give you a sentence or so about each story.

storm song | what can move when you find and sing your song?

we’ll always have june | shifting from death to life opens up so much.

the story of a knife | what does home feel like when you arrive?

the dark calls | how does you respond when the deep calls?

return to the sea | everyone deserves to die where they’re the most comfortable.

the deepwater vandal | what grounds you when you learn home is impermanent? what defines the places you come back to?

the nightingale’s lament | we deserve well written sex stories.

sea wolf in prince’s clothing | your allies can be found in the most unsuspecting places and people.

nor’easter | it’s always possible to find another pod.

the first and last kiss | how do you navigate something being ripped from your hands? your life?

the merrow | trust your morals and what drives your push to defy.

shark week | “we are monsters, warm and tender and trusting.”

jinny’s pearls | protection comes in lots of forms.

six thousand miles | don’t deny your truth.

I really liked a good chunk of these stories and think I will have discovered some new authors to check out from it.   Some felt a bit samey but I would love to read this collection again in the future.
