Hickory-Dickory-Dock the will is in the clock!
My partner and I finished this fun Nancy Drew puzzle with a lot of the iconic covers.  We decided to read whatever book was the last piece.  There wasn't an audiobook of that particular title when we were on our road trip so we started with #1.  We had a blast listening to this because Nancy Drew is such a Mary Sue type of character and so we were making jokes along the way, which added a star for me because of the experience...but it was also a solid kids mystery that showed Nancy as very capable for a 1930's girls adventure story.   She has her own car and can change a flat tire!  Go, Nancy!

Additionally, this type of genre just isn't found anymore.  It helps me piece together the drama/mystery elements of venture bros. and appreciate that aspect more too.

In my quest to revisit books I should've read as a kid, I decided Nancy Drew was up next.

description

Not the best decision on my part. Maybe I would've enjoyed this a few years ago, but the story was awful. I suppose eight-year old me would've been impressed at Nancy's deductive reasoning skills, but adult me was bored.

Type of read: Lunch time read.

What made me pick it up: Here's the deal, sometimes you just need an easy read for lunch time or appointment waiting or those little moments where you can sneak in a few pages, Nancy Drew is just that. As a child of the 90s, I grew up on Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys. These were the books that taught me how to read and adventure through pages. It's been fun revising the Nancy Drew series.

Overall rating: As I reread through the Nancy Drew series, I'm not going to rate them or provide a detailed review. I'm simply reading these because it makes me happy and makes me think of simpler times. I will always recommend books like Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Box Car Children, Babysitters Club, Goosebumps, Animorphs, and so on as those are the books that drew me into reading and kept me excited to continue turning pages.

Now I have read my first Nancy Drew mystery :-D
Acceptably good reading, short, entertaining. Enough excitement and mystery. Also, it's good that she is very self-sufficient. She changes the tire on her car, and fixes the motorboat motor, without sitting there and wishing for a man to arrive and rescue her.
