I probably shouldn't mark this as 'read' because I haven't read the whole thing, only 3 chapters but I don't want it hanging out in my currently reading queue. The essays I read were well writen and thoughtful.

The exhibition is pretty good. I wasn't familiar with Kurelek before the exhibition but he seems to be known for his Prairie genre scenes. However, his work is generally much darker and filled with religious currents even where you wouldn't expect them. One of the essays in the book implied the actually all of Kurelek's work is in fact religious. I can easily believe this since it gives his body of work more unity and he was so devout and disturbed it isn't surprising his beliefs would be so infused in his painting.

A good read if you'd like more insight into Kurelek and his painting.
