Good novel. Thrilling, eye-opening, sentimental. Didn’t want to put it down.... Sometimes there are too many interruptions and the plot is told a bit too slow...

A difficult one to review. As an Australian I had a limited knowledge of the Mexican migrant issue. The book gave me a greater awareness of the issue which can only be a good thing. I lfelt that Cummins handled some of the more unpleasant aspects in the book well. You understood the horror without a blow by blow account. I think Luca was a little over the top - that kid coped amazingly. Overall I'm glad I've read it, it has sparked a desire to learn more, but the book was too long!

I very much enjoyed American Dirt! At first it was a little bit confusing when it kept changing perspectives from Luca to Lydia so suddenly, but I quickly got used to that. I loved the Spanish words mixed in with the English. It’s so cool to be able to understand it all so seamlessly. I thought the book was very intense but that was good because it made me want to keep reading to find out what happened. I also can’t even imagine how intense that experience would be, so it reflects that well. It was SUCH a journey (in a good way) filled with so many emotions. It made me nervous, it made me angry and it made me cry. I feel like my heart was beating so fast the whole way through. Definitely worth a read!

Important topic for today. I love how it puts you in the shoes of the different characters within the book

I wish I could rate this book higher as it was captivating and eye opening to a subject matter that is extremely relevant in our society currently. However I wish the author spent more time on the resolution as it is a very heavy read emotionally. there were a lot of loose ends in the story and things that didn’t make sense which were significant enough that it bothered me as I read the book.
